Disha’s Timeline – Disha Eye Hospitals

1997

At the beginning, Disha started its operations with Dr. Debasish Bhattacharya’s private chambers. In May 1997, Dr. Debashish Bhattacharya along with two of his friends, Dr. Tushar Kanti Hazra and Dr. Samar Kumar Basak, founded Disha Eye Hospitals, a Private Limited Company. They are well-known alumni of Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College.

1998

Disha’s first building was inaugurated on the 12th of December, 1998. Starting with a 20,000 sq. ft. two- storey building, right across Barrackpore station, Disha was an immediate success. Within a year, it saw itself operating more than 5,000 patients. Dr. Tushar Sinha (alumnus of NRS Medical College) played an instrumental role in the transformation of the retina department after a year it was founded.

2000 - 2003

Young and talented Ophthalmologists started being a part of Disha Hospitals. By then it had become a four-storey building, housing 5 operation theatres. 2003 saw the inauguration of the Out Patient Department (OPD) building, which was another 23,000 sq. ft. of the Patient Care Area.

2005

The patient figure touched 3.5 lakh, annually. Around 25,000 operations were performed in all subspecialties of Ophthalmology with 25 Consultants.

2006

In September 2006, Disha Eye Hospitals introduced its second hospital in Sheoraphuly, Hooghly which aimed to cater to people who resided on the other side of the Ganga.

2009

Disha instituted its Cataract, Refractive Surgi-Centre in a sprawling 40,000 sq. ft. infrastructure at Ghoshipara, Palta (just a few minutes away from Barrackpore).

2012

The third hospital was built in the industrial city of Durgapur, keeping in mind, the importance of reaching people to their locations (suburban areas of Bengal), so that the distance and other expenses do not come in the way of quality eye care. Under the leadership of Dr.Partha Mandal and Dr.Soma Mandal. Disha announced its first Day Care Centre at Sinthee (Barahnagar) which commenced its operations from 12th November 2012.

2013

Disha Eye Hospital on VIP Road commenced its operations from 10th June, 2013. Also, a premium 5000 sq ft centre was formally inaugurated on 20th October 2013, at Behala opposite Barisha High School.

2014

Disha’s Phaco Day Care Centres began to function in Barasat and Gariahat. Disha opened another branch (which is about 25000 sq. ft.) at Mourigram in Howrah district, under the leadership of Dr.Tushar Kanti Hazra.

2015

The Berhampore branch started in 2015 and is located near the Income tax office. This branch has dedicated services which are available in other branches too for the residents living in and around Berhampore.

2016

The Burdwan branch started in 2016 which is located in Grand Trunk Road, Khagragorh. This branch has dedicated services for Cataract, Glaucoma, Cornea, Retina and caters around 200 patients daily. It also consists of spectacle store, pharmacy so that patients can have access to total eye care

2017

The Siliguri branch started in the year 2017 and is located near Don Bosco. This branch has dedicated services for Cataract, Glaucoma, Cornea, Retina, Pediatric, Squint, Oculoplasty and caters around 100 patients daily. It also has opticals, pharmacy so that patients can have access to total eye care.

2019

Disha Eye Hospitals set its foot in Arambagh in November 2019. The Arambagh center is spread across 5,000 sq ft. Currently, it has outdoor facilities for departments like general ophthalmology, cataract, retina, glaucoma, etc. Indoor surgical facilities are available as well. We have several patients coming from that side of Bengal and with this branch, we are hoping to cater to those patients without them traveling too far for eye treatment.

2020

Disha Mahanagar is clearly our Dream Hospital which is spread across 80,000 sq ft with 10 story building equipped with cutting edge technology. Currently it has both outdoor and surgical facilities catering to a wide range of treatments from cataract, glaucoma, cornea, retina, pediatric ophthalmology to femto laser cataract and many more. There are 6 Laminar Flow OTs with 16 bedded recovery room. We started this in March 2020 and hope to take this hospital to greater heights.

2021

Dristi Disha is a collaboration with Dristi Eye Foundation founded by Dr.Sabyasachi Ghosh. An institute having experience of over two decades in providing the best eye care services in Howrah. Now partnered with Disha Eye Hospitals, the institute looks to develop new synergies to improve and deliver the best, respecting everyone's ability to pay

2022

A new centre of Disha Eye Hospitals, was inaugurated in Mecheda, Purba Medinipur in the year 2022. It is a two floor set up spread across 8000 sq. ft. The hospital was reinstated to serve the people of Purba and Paschim Medinipur and Howrah. It has both OPD & IPD facilities with all specialties of ophthalmology.

2023

The new centre of Disha Eye Hospitals, the largest state-of-the-art eye hospital of Eastern India, was inaugurated in Asansol in 2023. It is spread across 10,000 sq ft. This is Disha’s eighteenth hospital which consists of 1 Operation Theatre, 15 beds and 5 OPD clinics for the patients with all modern equipment along with the best investigative and surgical facilities. The new branch in Asansol is in addition to our Durgapur branch and we will be able to serve the patients of South Bengal more efficiently.
